FRIENDLIER URL PROVIDER

Say it all in just one url

Logo Aricie Friendlier URL

What's the module about? Friendlier Url Provider is a url rewriter that allows you to define what urls look like in your DotNetNuke website. With a DotNetNuke install out of the box, here is what you usually get:
http://www.aricie.com/Default.aspx?tabid=128&language=en-US
This url does not make sense, neither for your human users nor for the search engine crawlers - such as Google's - that visit your site. FUP can rewrite this url and uses the information it contains to change it to a more explicit url:
http://www.aricie.com/en/produits/dotnetnuke/expert-modules/friendlier-url-provider.aspx
This way your users know what the page is about, and so do the crawlers. They can infer meaning from the url, which leads to better ranking in search results.

What makes this rewriting so friendly? FUP comes with default rewriting rules so you can just install and configure the FUP module to get an immediate result on your whole site. You can then start to add specific rules for pages or modules. For example, you may want to include the page title, the article title and its category name in the url to an article. For a forum post, the approach will be differente as the forum name, the thread name and the scope are the information you may want to nject in the urls. Therefore, every module and page can have its own way to rewrite urls. That is what FUP allows through its advanced configuration interface. By default, FUP includes many providers - check out the list - and allows you to create your own easily.

I am a happy user of Aricie's Friendlier URL Provider. I love the level of re-writing control provided by this module. I can make my URLs look just how I want them to -- a real plus for a control freak like me!
I have used other URL rewriters for DNN, and this is the one that I prefer over the rest.
